Rama Narayanan

Research Assistant, Western Ghats

I am an engineer-turned-ecologist. I got an opportunity to coordinate lake restoration projects in Chennai, which sparked my interest towards wetland ecosystems. This broadened my interests towards wildlife and conservation and further motivated me to do a Master's in ecology. For my Master's dissertation, I compared nocturnal flying insects in shade-coffee plantations and wet evergreen forests of Western Ghats. Following on from my dissertation work, I am currently looking into the role of nocturnal insects in coffee pollination. Broadly, I am interested in ecosystem functions, restoration ecology and human-wildlife interactions. Apart from these, I enjoy playing the flute and illustrating wildlife.
