Our research is focused on hornbill biology, interactions between rats, seeds and rainforest trees, tree phenology, understanding patterns and processes in vegetation recovery following shifting cultivation. Past work has focused on monitoring threatened wildlife, understanding anthropogenic effects on wildlife, exploration surveys and management of reserves.

Human beings are part of nature and therefore it is vital to have community participation in conservation activities. This is especially true while attempting to implement conservation programs where good quality forests still exist outside Protected Areas.

Hornbill seed dispersal and conservation

This project aimed to understand how different hornbills track fruits over space and time, what role do they play as seed dispersers and the impacts of logging and hunting on hornbills and seed dispersal.

The study was mainly carried out in Namdapha Tiger Reserve and the adjoining forests from 2008 - 12

Hornbill survey across North-east India

Has hornbill distribution declined in last twenty years?

What is the status of hornbills across select Protected Areas in north-east India?

To find answers to these questions, we traveled 25,000 km, sought information from hunters & elders for an area of more than 17,000 sq. km & trekked in 16 Protected Areas
