Intern needed for help with compilation of information for a field guide to plants of Arunachal Pradesh.
Our Eastern Himalaya programme is looking for an intern to assist with compilation of information for a field guide to Plants of Arunachal Pradesh.
The position is available for 5 months (starting from February 2019) and the monthly stipend would be Rs. 15,000 per month.
The book will be about 400 pages and is expected to cover 300 species of climbers, herbs, shrubs, trees of Arunachal Pradesh.
The intern will be expected to:
- Help organize, sort and label selected plant photos for the book
- Assist in compiling information and text for species pages
A person with good skills in English writing with a keen eye for detail is required. The person would be required to search for/read/go through floras and related botanical texts/information on the internet and in books.
An interest in plants/botany and knowledge of MS Word and Excel.
Background in plant taxonomy and basic understanding of plant families and nomenclature. Good people skills and ability to work and co-ordinate with a team.
The position will be based out of NCF’s Bangalore office and candidates based in Bangalore are preferable. The work will be carried out under the guidance of two scientists – Aparajita Datta (Bangalore-based) and Navendu Page (Dehradun-based). Candidates keen on obtaining some field experience of north-eastern plants may get a chance to visit the Pakke Tiger Reserve in Arunachal Pradesh.
